Role Description
Financial Accounting Lead – Group Reporting & Advisory
Reporting to the Manager – Financial Accounting, the Financial Accounting Lead is responsible for leading the coordination, review and delivery of MEPAU's financial accounting, group reporting, statutory reporting, audit, compliance and advisory activities. The role provides technical accounting expertise, supports the implementation of reporting and governance processes, and acts as a key liaison across internal and external stakeholders to ensure the integrity of financial accounting outcomes. The Financial Accounting Lead also supervises the day-to-day activities of the Financial Accounting team and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function
Position Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager – Financial Accounting, you will:
- Review and approve financial close, reporting and statutory reporting deliverables.
- Coordinate group reporting, statutory reporting, audit and compliance activities in accordance with established schedules and governance requirements.
- Provide technical accounting advice and support the resolution of complex accounting matters.
- Support the development, implementation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures and reporting frameworks.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and external advisors, to support reporting, compliance and advisory outcomes.
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Financial Accounting team and support capability development across the function.
- Provide technical input into finance systems, controls and process improvement initiatives.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial accounting, reporting and governance processes across the organisation.

To be successful in this role, you will require the following skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification.
- Demonstrated experience in group reporting, statutory reporting, audit, compliance and technical accounting advisory activities.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to interpret and apply complex accounting standards.
- Experience coordinating reporting processes, audit engagements and compliance requirements across multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to review and approve complex accounting deliverables and provide technical guidance to others.
- Experience preparing or reviewing accounting position papers, technical assessments and advisory recommendations.
- Experience overseeing compliance activities and evaluating the design and effectiveness of internal controls, with the ability to provide technical guidance on governance, compliance and control matters.
- Proven ability to supervise, mentor and support the development of accounting professionals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with senior management, auditors and external advisors.
- Experience within the resources sector, joint venture environment or large professional services firm highly desirable.
