Graduate Environmental Advisor

Role Description

This position provides support to the HSE team in Environmental compliance and assurance activities across HSE Corporate, Operated Assets, Projects and Developments.

This role will ensure operational obligations are met while identifying and implementing opportunities to improve control processes/outcomes.

Position Responsibilities

Approvals, Regulatory Compliance and Assurance

  • With support from both the Principal Environmental Advisor and respective asset teams you will support regulatory compliance and assurance activities including:
    • Audits and inspections
    • Closing of environmental commitments
    • Development of training and awareness material
    • Ensure timely regulatory reporting
    • Incident reporting and actions
    • NPI and NGER emission and discharge data collation
    • Review and manage environmental data systems and chemicals.
    • Support development of environmental approvals

Environmental Monitoring

Ensure environmental monitoring is conducted in compliance with Regulatory approvals. This may include noise, ground and surface water, air emissions, soil, weed, flora and vegetation, rehabilitation and dieback monitoring conducted internally and by consultants.

  • Communication & Support: Inform colleagues of any hazardous situations and assist new employees in understanding and applying safe work procedures.
  • Safe Work Practices: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to established safe work methods. Do not perform tasks requiring certification unless the appropriate certificate or permit is held.
  • Competency & Responsibility: Only undertake tasks you are trained and competent to perform. Do not interfere with or disable any safety devices or equipment unless part of an approved maintenance or repair procedure.

Requirements / Qualifications / Experience

  • Tertiary environmental qualifications i.e. Bachelor of Science or Environmental Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of HSE management database systems (desirable).
  • Sound organisational skills, including multitasking, time-management and influencing without authority.
  • High level of proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • ArcGIS, or equivalent (Desirable).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high attention to detail and a can-do attitude.
